Ohhhhkayyyyy. I wasn’t planning on hauling this many. But I have no self control and I am so stressed, and for me stress equates to book shopping. This haul is a living testament to how stressed I was. In my defense, only the Penguin Little Black Classics, Since You’ve Been Gone and The Wrath and The Dawn are the only ones I paid for it full price. The rest are bargain ones! These are the times when I am more of a hoarder than a reader, but then again, I live by the phrase “Life is short, buy that freaking book already! Haha

Penguin Little Black Classics they are only P70/e or 1.55$ each. I got Catullus, Emily Bronte, Wilfred Owen, Thomas Hardy and Kenko four of which are poetry book. I am not sure if I am going to buy all the books in the collection or maybe the ones I really like. I got this from Fullybooked Mall of Asia.

The Red Pony by John Steinbeck I have always wanted to own a John Steinbeck book, and so happy I found this one for only P20 or .44$ at BookSale SM Dasma.

The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks it was one of those days that I was so down that I went to the Booksale near me, I stumbled upon this book, it was only P50 or 1.11$ from Booksale Pedro Gil. I have loved books with military, marines or fbi agents in it, when I read the blurb I knew this one would be right up my alley. I scanned it on goodreads and it has really high ratings! Score!

Summer at The Lake by Erica James another impulsive buy, but it was only P35 .77$ plus it has good ratings on good reads too! Also from Booksale Pedro Gil.

Cold Mountain by Frazier another bargain book for only P20 or .44$. It was an award winning book so I got it.

The Peculiars by Maureen McQueery I’ve been eyeing this book at the bookstore for so long, I was convinced on buying it for its full price, but luckily I saw one at Booksale Pedro Gil and it was freaking signed! Score for P130 or 2.88$\

Because it Is My Blood by Gabriel Zevin This is the second book in the All These Things Ive Done series, i don’t know if that’s what the series is called, so don’t quote me on that haha! It was only P25 or .55$ in hardcover, it would be stupid to pass it up. Even though I still need book 1, I’m pretty sure I can always find it in booksale. This one is also from Pedro Gil branch

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce I didn’t have any plans on buying this one, but when I opened it and took off its dust jacket, goodness it was beautiful. It would be a crime to let it pass, it was only for P60 or 1.33$.

Quiver of Arrows by Carl Philips this is a collection of poetry, I have read Carl Philips’ Riding Westward, I enjoyed it too, so when I saw this for only P35 I knew it had to go home with me.

White Teeth by Zadie Smith now there is a funny story about this one, I was browsing through booksale when the new delivery came, they put all the books inside their stock room, I asked the sales lady when are they going to display them, they said later that day and advised me to return instead. So I returned and still the books aren’t displayed yet, I asked her again and she apologized and said she was doing a lot of things she didn’t had the time to sort the books as she was waiting for her co-worker, she said I could enter the stock room and select the books I wanted, like first dibs on the book! Hahah she was so nice to do that! So I got this book for P20 or .44$ Soo happy! Ive been wanting to read a Zadie Smith for the longest time, and now I have one of her books, there will be no excuse. This is also from Pedro Gil branch.

Tatiana and Alexander by Paullina Simons holy smokessss! I never thought I’d be so lucky to find it there, for only P115 or 2.55$ (Booksale SM Dasma, I also found the Bronze Horseman in the same branch!) I’m so excited to read them, since many really loved these books,

Fathers: A Collection of Poems this one is also from Pedro Gil branch for only P35. It was a collection of poetry from different known authors. Kind of reminded me of my father,

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson Mind you it was the Platinum edition, it was P115 from SM Dasma branch! Also heard a lot of great things about this one!

Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf score for only P125 or 2.77$! I have always wanted to own a Virginia Woolf book and now I have one!! yey! This one from Robinsons Imus branch

All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy also P20 from Pedro Gil branch!

The Wrath and The Dawn by  Renee Ahdieh I wanted to own a copy of this so bad, but then FullyBooked MOA didn’t have it in hardcover, I settled for a paperback copy. I would rebuy it, if I really loved the story.

Love Rosie by Cecilia Ahern I was so sure to get this for its full price, but then again book gods are smiling at me. I saw a copy at SM MOA branch for only P150 or 3$. Sooo happy! Now I can read it as I really enjoyed the movie!

A Rush of Hands by Juan Delgado, Many Woods of Grief both from SM DASMA branch and P10 or .22$ each!! Another addition to my poetry collection!

Human Chain by Seamus Heaney happy to find a poetry book by him at MOA branch for P60!

From Desire to Desire another book for P20 at Robinsons Imus branch.

Laws of My Nature also a poetry book for P20 at Pedro Gil Booksale

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson bought this for P359 at National Bookstore SM Dasma, I’ve been wanting this in hard cover but was too expensive, settled for paperback instead.

In Between by Jenny B. Jones from what I’ve gathered this one is a funny book, Jenny B. Jones is the author of There You’ll Find Me a book I got last May. Only for P20 at Pedro Gil BookSale

Refresh, refresh by Benjamin Percy it was a collection of short stories, which again I am influenced by Matthew of WeLiveForBooks on youtube (please do check their channel) it was also P20 from Booksale Pedro Gil.

and last but not the least, whew….

Incendiary by Chris Cleave I now own three of his books, sadly this one didn’t match my copies of Gold and Little Bee, but I could not pass this one up since it was only P20 from Pedro Gil Booksale.

Everything from Booksale Robinsons Imus

Hi! So Booksale is currently my best friend, it just keeps giving me good bargains! I swear June has been the best month for bargain finds, and we are not even half way through June!

Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf I saw this beautiful copy of Mrs. Dalloway and I just knew it will go home with me. This edition is just so gorgeous! The spine is a little creased but, it doesn’t really bother me, plus it was only P125 or 3$. It was still a great steal!

Scarlet Pimpernel by Baronness Orczy Yes you are seeing two copies. The bigger and nicer copy will go to my dear friend Jenny of (@jayne.vs.books on instagram). I have been recommended so many times of this book so I went ahead and bought it.

Private Lives of Pippa Lee by Rebecca Miller I have been intrigued by this book when I saw Zoe of WeLiveforBooks enjoyed and reviewed it. So when I saw it for only P35 of less than a dollar, I knew I had to get it. Plus the book is in perfect condition!

From Desire to Desire by Yevtushenko is a collection of love poems, the book was older than me, it was published 1980 and with the original owner’s name. I find that cool. And I bought it for P20 or half a dollar!

I am happy with this haul! 🙂

All boought from BookSale Pedrogil branch, one of my favorite!

11123928_915502798492982_1240325058_n

I am back in Manila after staying for a good eight months at Tagaytay (where the weather is more forgiving). And because I am a little homesick, yes I wanted to go home, I miss my mom and my books. I visited Booksale Pedro Gil branch, I used to find good books there when I was living here in Manila last year. To be honest I had no intention on buying anything, but these pretty books presented themselves to me.

1. Refresh, Refresh by Benjamin Percy is a collection of short stories, aside from poetry I am also into reading short stories, this is highly influenced by Matt of WeLiveforBooks I am so obsessed with their channel and mostly the books I am accumulating recently was influenced by Zoey and Matt. Check their booktube channel if you guys have time, no I say you make time for it. So Refresh, Refresh is the cheapest book I got yesterday, it was only P20 or .50.

2. Quiver of Arrows by Carl Phillips is a collection of poems from 1986 to 2006. I have read his other work Riding Westward and I fairly enjoyed it, so when I saw this book for only P35 or less than a dollar, I just could not resist. Plus this will be yet another addition to my ever growing collection of poetry books.

3. Fathers: A collection of Poems this is a collection of poems from a hundred known poets talking about their fathers. In this splendid collection, both daughters and sons introduce us and pay heartfelt tribute to their fathers. whether writing of fathers who were heroes or antiheroes, defenders or pacifists, those who went away suddenly or those who reappeared after a long period of time, the poets here cast the net wide to harvest the infinite variety of the father and child relationship. This moving anthology includes. This book reminded me of my father, who passed away a year ago, I am pretty sure this book will bring out some tears. Bought this one for P35 or less than a dollar.

4. The Peculiars by Maureen Doyle McQuerry and a signed one at that! This is a steampunk novel, I have had my eyes on this one for the longest time whenever I visit the bookstore, but I could not bring myself to pay the full price for it, and so when I saw it on Booksale for P130 or 3$ and it was freaking signed, I knew there is no way I’m not going home without it.

5. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry to be honest I was about to leave this one behind, I don’t see myself reading it in the near future, but then I removed its dust jacket and my god it was so beautiful, then I checked the reviews and it was good, plus it was only P80 or 2$ so it would be absurd to leave it behind.

So that is my mini bookhaul from a secondhand book store here in the Philippines. I swear used bookstores will be the death of me! haha! Have a happy day ahead guys. Have you hauled books from second hand bookstores? Come on show me!!!

All from BookSale SM Dasmarinas

How is everyone? I’ve been missing in action for a while. I got a new job so I would be busy during weekdays. I will try to update my blog as much as I can, even my reading time is sacrificed 😦

Today I am going to share my newly acquired books. I spent a little over 8$ for all these books. The Hobbit in hard cover, The Fellowship of the Ring both by JRR Tolkien. I have been wanting to read the Lord of The Rings Series for the longest time, it is just so hard to find a decent copy at secondhand bookstores and the ones in bookstores are in mass market paperback format which I am not a fan of. So it was really a good deal to have found these two books. I hope I can find The Two Towers and The Return of The King too so I could finally marathon them!

And Siddhartha by Herman Hesse I bought for only Php20 or .40c. this book is included in The Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge so I was really stoked when I found it at very cheap price! So these are the books I got over the weekend, did you get any books? Show me! 🙂 Have a great week ahead!

Book Bargains #2

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl for only P130 or almost 3$ and Baby's In Black for P170 or almost 4$

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl for only P130 or almost 3$ and Baby’s In Black for P170 or almost 4$

I went to the mall today to buy a gift for a friend, so a trip to the mall is never complete if I will not be visiting BookSale (a local used book store here in the Philippines) I noticed they had new stocks, it wasn’t really my intention to buy anything but then these babies flaunted their pretty covers to me. And they are in the best condition, like new! I first saw Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, I have heard mixed reviews about it, and one of my friends whom I have the same taste when it comes to books didn’t like it, but I still bought it, I would like to give it a try, it’s cheap and in hard cover so it wouldn’t be a major guilt trip if i end up hating the book, plus the cover is pretty (haha sue me, i love pretty covers) it couldn’t be that bad.

10844081_388263934665596_1659281059_nAnd so I was determined to leave the book store with only one book, but ugh!! this book is just soo beautiful to pass up. It is a Graphic Novel about the fifth member of The Beatles, he was not able to make it big because he fell in love! So being the hopeless romantic that I am and I because wanted more graphic novels added to my collection,I bought it! Yay! I am so pumped to read this one!!!

It had me at The True Love Story of the Lost Beatle! oh yeah! Today is a good day for books, ( well any given day is a good day for books!) So have you been to a used book store near you? What did you get? Come on, show me!

P.S I posted this on my instagram and asked few times which branch of Book Sale I got them from – It is BookSale SM Dasmarinas 🙂

I went out today to buy a gift for a friend, sadly I wasn’t able to find the ones she listed on her wishlist. Well I figured out something instead. So before heading home I dropped by BookSale, a popular second hand bookstore here in the Philippines. You have no idea how I literally gasped when I saw the spine of The Bronze Horseman amongst the many piles of books, though I am not a fan of the cover and I don’t usually buy used books with cracked spine his one would be an exception. I just simply could not pass this one up.I know I will be able to find a better copy, but for now this will do. And The Lies of Locke Lamora is another book I have been dying to read. I heard a lot of good things about it, actually about both of these books! So I am so pumped to finally start them!

How about you? Have you been to a used book store lately?
